Habit Hack: The Answer to Dry Skin

Many things change as we age, and there are a few things you might quickly notice: fine lines and wrinkles creeping in or sun damage giving you pigmentation. However, the most commonly neglected change is the moisture within your skin, causing your skin to a dry skin type.

How does it happen?

As we age, our skin loses its ability to hold onto sufficient moisture, so you might start noticing that it's becoming drier. Our skin's ability to retain moisture starts to drop off at the age of 25 and starts to become noticeable as early as your 40s and 50s.

How do you make up for the loss of moisture?

Hydration and moisturisation are essential for all ages, skin types, and concerns. As we age, our skin's natural moisture supplies start to decline.

Hyaluronic acid, glycerin, ceramides, and jojoba oil are vital ingredients for achieving hydration and moisturisation. However, all skin is different, so you may need to test and play with a few variations depending on your skin type and concerns about those key ingredients and products before you find the one.

Best ingredient combinations for moisture and hydration:

Hydration and moisturisation are essential for all ages, skin types, and concerns. As we age, our skin's natural moisture supplies start to decline.

  • Humectants - Humectants are known for attracting water and visibly plumping the skin. Hyaluronic acid (our favourite!) and glycerin are the most known humectants.
  • Oils - Oils and butter help lock in moisture; jojoba oil and shea butter are the most common.
  • Ceramides - Ceramides ensure that trans-epidermal water loss doesn't happen too quickly by holding onto water in the skin, making them well known in dealing with moisture loss.

Skincare Routine Tips!

  • Our #1 tip to help hydrate & lock in moisture is to ensure you have damp skin throughout your skincare routine. Always start your routine by applying water to your face and ensure it stays damp while applying serums, especially Hyaluronic Acid.
  • Another tip we love at the moment is if you are experiencing super dry skin and regularly use Retinol - try applying moisturiser before and after your Retinol Serum for hydration supercharge!
