Habit Hack: Dehydrated Lines vs. Wrinkles: What's The Difference?

What Causes Wrinkles?

Wrinkles are primarily influenced by the gradual breakdown of collagen and elastin fibres in the skin. These fibres are responsible for maintaining its structure, elasticity, and firmness. Additionally, external factors such as sun exposure, smoking, pollution, and repetitive facial movements can contribute to the development of wrinkles.

How to Minimise the Appearance of Wrinkles:

  • Protect your skin from the sun: Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF, seek shade during peak sun hours, and use protective clothing and accessories.
  • Maintain a consistent skincare routine: Establish a daily routine and look for ingredients like retinol, vitamin C, peptides, and antioxidants.
  • Hydrate your skin: Use a moisturiser suitable for your skin type, and incorporate hydrating serums or facial oils into your routine.

What Causes Dehydration Lines?

Dehydration lines, also known as fine lines, are temporary creases that appear on the skin when it lacks adequate moisture. Several factors contribute to this, including exposure to harsh weather conditions, excessive use of drying skincare products, and hot showers or baths, as well as dehydration, poor diet, and certain medications.

How to Minimise Dehydrated Skin:

  • Stay hydrated from within: Drink sufficient water throughout the day.
  • Use a hydrating moisturiser: Choose a moisturiser that contains ingredients like hyaluronic acid or ceramides.
  • Avoid excessive heat and harsh products: Opt for lukewarm water when washing the face, and avoid using harsh cleansers or products that can further dehydrate your skin.
